The myDNA U.S. Launch Party May 2 was a huge HIIT— pun intended.

Hosted at SmogShoppe, the launch party began with a high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout with celebrity trainer Luke Milton, assisted by trainers from Training Mate. Following the workout was a colorful, nutritional and delicious lunch accompanied by a panel of my DNA representatives; they educated guests about their DNA test results as well as provided a breakdown of genes directly linked to vitamins, nutrition, caffeine and fitness. The panel then opened for questions and concluded with percussion therapy treatments from Theragun, massages and personalized gifting.

MyDNA is a genetic interpretation company that helps people understand the secrets of their DNA and what to do with that knowledge. The Australian-based Wellness DNA company consists of a clinical team of pharmacologists, molecular and clinical geneticists, researchers, genetic counselors, nutritionists and dieticians. With over 120 years’ experience among them combined, the team analyzes the customer’s buccal swab; a cheek swab that allows you to collect cheek cells for DNA analysis. The results from swabs or blood samples are exactly the same but they are just processed differently.

After completing the cheek swab, customers must register their kits online; each kit comes with a registration code as well as a reply-paid envelope to send your swab back to myDNA. Upon arrival at the testing facility, it takes the lab and scientific team 10 to 15 working days to process results and send back reports to customers.

There are two kit options available in the U.S. The green kit is the Wellness & Nutrition DNA Test Kit. This kit creates a personalized diet report. The blue kit is the Medication DNA Test Kit. This kit provides the following personalized reports: mental health medication report, pain medication report, cardiovascular medication report and the gastrointestinal medication report.

The event allowed for myDNA users to seek advice and get questions answered about their own results and how to integrate the newfound information into their lifestyles. The main takeaway from the panel was to enforce the concept “our genes are not our destiny.” The panelists enforced the importance of making the transition to a healthier lifestyle a holistic approach.

“I define a healthy lifestyle as physical health, social health, mental health, and addressing all three equally… What we’re doing right now is a healthy lifestyle,” said Milton. “Implementing a healthy lifestyle or a healthy recipe diet or a healthy nutritional plan or the right vitamins that you’re going to get from your VitaKit there; it’s done instantaneously. The power in that goes such a long way to contributing to your healthy lifestyle. I urge you to get the information, workout, do whatever you gotta do to put it into place straight away. That is something that can add to your healthy lifestyle way quicker than the aesthetics of a physical transformation.”

In terms of creating a healthy nutritional plan—the panelists were all vocal about being against fad diets— nutritionist Whitney English suggested that people should find an eating pattern and exercises that they enjoy; in turn, this will make them healthy. English also discussed the benefits of taking on a plant-based diet.

“Bottom line, eat more plants,” advised English. “Vitamins and minerals are found in all the plant foods in a wide array and in high amounts. Plants also contain what are called phytochemicals which have biological effects and can affect our health… Superstars would probably be berries, leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, the omega-3 sources of plants like hemp seeds, chia seeds and flax seeds, and nuts and olive oil. Those are the top ones. Try to get those in every day.”
