“I honestly think it’s one of the most creative pieces of clothing ever.” Multi-platinum recording artist Jason Derulo was raving about his favorite piece from his and Atlanta designer Antonio Brown’s new luxury menswear line, LVL XIII, that launched yesterday at Bloomingdale’s in Century City, CA. The piece of clothing Derulo is referring to is the camo bomber jacket that transforms into a backpack. This has never been done before and truthfully is the most exciting part about this collection and makes it stand out from other menswear lines. The bomber jacket is also reversible to a black bomber. To transform the jacket into a backpack, first, bring the sleeves in and zip the pockets of the sleeves on both sides. Then, turn it upside down from the bottom, and zip it all the way through, and all the fabric tucks in. Voila, you have a very stylish backpack! In just three easy steps, you can take your jacket off and turn it into an accessory instead of having to tie it around your waist. This transformative jacket retails for $495. The debut of this collection also includes one of Derulo’s other favorite pieces; the ombre clear-to-black raincoat he wore in the music video for his hit song “Swalla”. That coat retails for $400.
LVL XIII has a very futuristic aesthetic, while being easily transformable and maintaining a very comfortable fit. Brown emphasized the importance of this: “For us to be able to transition our looks throughout the day was super important, but it also brought value to the consumers. At the end of the day, we want the consumers to feel good in the apparel but we also want the looks to transition so they can wear it in more than just one way.” The collection includes a range of mixed fabrics of jackets, sweatshirts, joggers and more as well as streetwear-meets-luxury sneakers. One of Derulo’s main focuses while working on this collection, especially being a performer himself, was the achievability of a stylish yet comfortable fit; “There’s something to be said about an outfit that looks amazing, that looks tailored, but you don’t feel stuffy in it. If I needed to bust a move right now, I could do it.” This line is true to Derulo’s style and vision and marks a grand start to launching Jason Derulo the brand.
